Milk facial

Beni cracks me up...sometimes when she's nursing she'll decide that she needs to rub her little face all around. Well, I hope it's not too graphic to say, but, once the milk is flowing, it's flowing! So then she ends up with a milk facial (for real because breast milk has all kinds of healing and antibacterial properties). In this picture you can see that she has it dripping out of her mouth, down her right cheek, and although she blinked a nanosecond before I took this picture, she literally had a pool of it in her left eye. I just laughed.

When she ha a little bit of a goopy eye sometime in her second or third week (the left one incidentally), I was told by many to put some breast milk on it. And when the baby acne first started, I also had people recommend to "wash" her face in breast milk. Well, seems I don't have to do anything- she's doing it all on her own! :)

The good news concerning her skin and stuff- even though I was previously using a baby soap/shampoo/lotion on her, I knew that this brand rated middle of the road for "cosmetic safety" (um, and the brand I was using is advertised as natural and rates lower than most common baby shampoos), so I decided to buy some baby wash and lotion that I knew rated really low (good) for safety. Even after one use the top of her head has cleared up! She does still have lots of pimples on her face and around the sides of her head, but at least we have progress. I have also avoided any overt dairy since Sunday. So basically, I think she probably would have gotten the acne anyway, but my guess is that the soap and lotion and the dairy were probably making it worse.

We'll just keep up with the milk facials, and maybe the acne will clear up faster than it would otherwise. :)

Tummy time

Shot this morning- she gets a bit vocal toward the end...

This was a while ago-as you can see she's sleeping on Joel's chest...just thought it was cute how she was making noises while sleeping. She does this now and then still.

1 month old today!

Look at this big girl! We went to the doctor today to make sure that Beni's baby acne was just baby acne and not something worse (it is, just a bad case of baby acne!) and she weighed in at 9lbs 8.5oz! That means she gained 1lb and 4.5oz in two weeks! Go Beni and mamma's milk! :)

Beni continues to be a "good baby" (when was the last time you met a bad baby?)- she's eating, she's sleeping and dirtying plenty of diapers. What more can you ask of a one month old? During the day, she sleeps really well in someone's arms (obviously recently it's been mine, but it was Joel's too), and at night she sleeps really well tucked right next to me in bed. She generally still eats twice a night (around 3am and 6am- having also eaten around 12), but sleeps soundly in between feedings- even if we get up to change her dipe! During the day I really don't pay too much attention to how much or often she eats or sleeps- I feed her on demand, and she sleeps when she wants. It works for us!!!

What else can I tell you about Beni.... she still gets the hiccups a lot. She doesn't like to have her neck touched. She often sleeps with her mouth open. She hates the car seat, most especially when it's not in the car and/or the car isn't moving. So, I have to make sure to only put her in the seat at the very last moment, and well, we dread long red lights. :( It's just miserable to listen to her cry. She's starting to follow things with her eyes- although most of the time she still stares off just past your face... She still loves the sound of her daddy's voice...I swear she actually calms down when she hears him on skype. :)

That's about it... we both can't wait for Joel to get back...we're just biding the time until then!

Some pictures...

I've posted all of these pictures on facebook, but, I realize some of you don't go there...so here are some recent photos of Beni...

Mom does think she rocks! :) (She was not into taking pics that day though...)

Spending more time awake...gazing at things I can't see... although, she will follow my head with her eyes if I move it side to side in front of her face.

She likes her milk... it usually puts her right to sleep!

One of her super cute diaper covers...

The first dress she wore...

Today...ready for the first really hot day of summer...

Chatting with Grandma...

Morning, Daddy!

This is especially for Joel, who hasn't gotten to see his girls since he left due to stupid internet in Angola. But of course, you're all welcome to watch and enjoy. :) (forgive the camera work...I'm still learning how to use the camcorder...)

By the way, I'd generally call this a video only the parents would really enjoy- lets face it it's kind of boring... but since some of you have never seen her "live" it might be good for you too...)
